Position Summary
The Plastic Blow Molding Supervisor oversees daily production activities within the blow molding department to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing of plastic products. This role manages machine operators and technicians, coordinates production schedules, troubleshoots equipment issues, and maintains compliance with quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Production Management
- Supervise daily blow molding operations to meet production targets and deadlines.
- Plan and adjust work schedules, staffing, and machine assignments to optimize productivity.
- Monitor machine performance and coordinate setups, startups, shutdowns, and changeovers.
- Ensure appropriate material handling, resin loading, and color/material transitions.
Quality Assurance
- Inspect product quality and verify compliance with specifications and customer requirements.
- Address non-conformances promptly and implement corrective actions.
- Work with Quality Control to maintain documentation, process parameters, and testing standards.
Equipment & Process Control
- Troubleshoot blow molding machines, auxiliary equipment, and mold issues.
- Assist with mold changes, tooling adjustments, and process optimization.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance and report equipment performance concerns.
Team Leadership
- Train, coach, and evaluate machine operators, packers, and technicians.
- Promote a positive, safe, and productive work environment.
- Enforce company policies, work procedures, and safety guidelines.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to OSHA and company safety standards.
- Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Maintain accurate production, downtime, scrap, and efficiency records.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
- 3–5 years of blow molding or plastics manufacturing experience.
- Supervisory or team-lead experience strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of blow molding processes (e.g., extrusion blow molding, injection stretch blow molding).
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in production reporting and basic computer applications (ERP, Excel, etc.).
