Description:

As a Legal Assistant in the Special Collections department, you will play a vital role in supporting the collection of delinquent tax accounts. You will be responsible for handling various administrative, legal, and research tasks that ensure the department operates efficiently and meets its goals. Your role will directly contribute to the success of the collections process by managing lawsuit packets, court document reviews, tracking payments, and maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtain and review court documents online.
  • Evaluate and document delinquent tax rolls.
  • Use skip-tracing to locate taxpayers and prepare lawsuit packets.
  • Update address records in Oracle.
  • Monitor and track payments on delinquent accounts.
  • Research corporate entity statuses.
  • Generate reports for paralegals and attorneys.
  • Upload and manage incoming department mail.
  • Prepare field visit packets for paralegals.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong organizational and attention to detail skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
  • Basic legal knowledge, especially corporate research.
  • Time management and problem-solving skills.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma required; legal coursework preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Prior office or legal experience preferred.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week with flexibility as needed.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods.
  • Always maintain confidentiality.
